Q: Is InfoCamp a place to discuss how to proceed with revising a public service web site?

A: Definitely! This is exactly the kind of topic InfoCamp is best suited for. There'll be librarians passionate about public service & findability and user-centered designers passionate about information architecture & usability. Both audiences could learn from each other by collaborating on this topic.

I noticed a request for a 101 session on IA/UX. How much interest is there in a panel for this and what type of concepts would you like covered? Presenting a panel such as this would take some time to prepare, but if there is enough interest I would be willing to take it on. We could discuss the user centered design process from start to finish but this wouldn’t touch much on UX. For IA I was planning on doing a panel around database design but with somewhat advanced concepts. If there is enough interest I could use that one to cover basic topics such as relations, requirements gathering, conceptual, and logical design. Are there enough people just learning about this stuff that they would want me to stick to basics? Let me know so I can prepare.

Sorry, no answers for you, Quentin. :) But I have a similar question for everyone. I noticed a request for a session on virtual reference services. What sort of session would be interesting? I coordinate my library's VR services. After seeing this comment, I've been thinking about talking about my research into the questions asked on VR and asking for insight into how my research can inform a future re-design of our library's web site. Would that be useful? Or are you looking more for a general discussion of VR services?

I would be happy to speak on any of these topics:
# Critical skills towards getting an IA/UX job
# How to interview for an IA/UX job
# A 101 session on IA/UX concepts
...but on the last one, I agree with Quentin, what specific areas do you want to cover? I have a canned presentation that covers the basics of what UX is... but I think your looking for more depth here.

Hi Nick. I am planning to do a 101 on UX Saturday morning for the first round. If you want to coordinate with me and join in then feel free to send me an email. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing you this weekend. For this session I plan to talk about UX - usability, desirability, and usefulness and the software development lifecycle with a strong focus on Alan Cooper's goal directed design process. I will go through each step of Cooper’s process including planning, research, modeling, requirements, framework, refinement, and support while adding information about different methods you can use at each step. For example for research I will talk about focus groups, longitudinal studies, interviews, and observations.

I am going to leave the 101 to you Quentin. I'll sign up to do one of the two "getting a UX job" sessions. :)

If there is interest, I can speak to getting an IA/UX job from the 'innie' perspective vs with an agency.

Samantha, are you meaning getting a IA/UX job at a company who is not a web agency? Yes, I can do that. However, if you mean going from one job role in a company to a IA/UX job role, that is something I can address but it largely depends on the culture within a company.
